The playoffs are underway in the St. Thomas Men's Basketball League, and teams showed some offensive rust on opening night.
In the opener, Talbot Trail Physiotherapy (1-0) got off to a good start with a 67-59 win over Home Hardware.
The Physiotherapists got out to a 29-21 lead at the break, as they slowed the game down to their pace and took away the Home Owners (0-1) ability to run.
In the third quarter, Home Hardware closed a gap to five, but a run pushed it to 15 by the end of the third. TTP would hold on for an eight point win to get off to a good start in the playoffs.
Alex Packer had a team leading 18 points for the winners with Taran Beekhuis scoring 17 and Jesse Foster 16.
Jonn Leonard had 15 points to lead the way in a losing cause.
The middle contest was the closest of the night. Elite Stars Elgin and Mackie's went back and forth all night, but it was the Stars who held on for a 72-70 win.
The OrangeAde's (0-1) had a great first quarter to take a four-point lead, but the Stars (1-0) bounced right back to lead 34-33 at the break.
The third quarter helped ESE take an eight point lead, and it looked like they were in control.
Later in the fourth, a 12-2 run by Mackie's gave them a late 67-66 lead, but a few key buckets by the Stars from Brian Apfelbeck, and Rob Wakefield put the game away.
Apfelbeck had a game high 29 with Wakefield adding 17.
Nick Roberts had 23 points, with Scott Ross adding 16 and Brent Lale 14 in a losing cause.
The finale was a scrap fest, and points were hard to come by with both teams missing their first round picks.
Cole-Munro Foods jumped out to a 22-13 lead after the first quarter, despite Tyler Annett scoring every point for Ambrose Plumbing in the opening 10 minutes.
An even second quarter saw the Trout (1-0) lead by eight going into the halftime break.
That's when the game turned. The Trout held the Plumbers to just 12 points in the final 20 minutes, en route to a 55-36 win.
Andrew Cole had 19 points and Alex Ryan added 13 for the winners, while Annett scored 22 of his teams 36 in the loss.
