Two teams booked their spot in the final four of the St. Thomas Men's Basketball League playoffs.
In the race for the Herb Hales Memorial Trophy, Elite Stars Elgin (3-0) and Cole-Munro Foods (3-0) both earned a spot in the semifinals after going perfect through three games.
The Trout won the game of the night, closing the final four minutes on a 12-0 run, to beat Mackie's 87-79.
In a back and forth game, Mackie's took the lead 76-75 with 9 straight points, but failed to score until a last second three pointer, as the Trout got key buckets from Ryan Pflanzer down the stretch.
Planzer had a game high 34 points including 15 in the final quarter for the winners. The Trout also got great shooting performances from Adrian Carstolovean (17 pts) and Alex Ryan (14) as well as Karsten Groen (10).
Brent Lale had 15 of his team high 21 in the fourth quarter, including four straight triples which gave his team the lead with about four minutes left, but they couldn't finish the job. Nathan Friesen had 19 points and Scott Ross 18 for the Orangeade's (0-3). While the Trout move on, Mackie's controls its own destiny, and with two wins they will make the final four.
Elite Stars booked their ticket to the next round after hammering Home Hardware 92-69.
Despite playing with just one starter, the Home Owners (0-3) hung tight down just 37-30 at the half, but the Stars scored 55 points after the break to make it a laugher.
Brian Apfelbeck had 25 points, Andrew Lynch 24 and Rob Wakefield 17 for the winners, who stay perfect through three games. Connor Hodgins-Depont had 34 points in a losing cause for Home Hardware.
In the other contest, Ambrose Plumbing (2-1) moved one step closer to a guaranteed playoff berth after a 69-49 win over Talbot Trail Physiotherapy.
The Plumbers opened the game on a 15-0 run over the first four minutes, and it looked like they'd cruise. However the Physiotherapists showed big fight and actually went on a 25-9 run to take the lead 25-24 midway through the second.
However the game of runs continued as the Plumbers bounced back with a 10-1 run of their own and never looked back.
THey'd lead by six at the break, then in the third quarter put the pedal down outscoring their opponents 20-4 in the third.
Steve Barton had 19 points, Tyler Annett, 17 and Jimmy Hendricksen 15 for the winners.
Jesse Foster had 16 points and Taran Beekhuis 14 for the Physiotherapists (1-2) who have dropped two straight.
